The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported on Tuesday $248.1 million in gross online casino revenue for April, the third-highest total in state history.
The figure represents a 28.6% increase from last year and trails only the record-setting haul of $260.5 million set in March and, by a margin of about $40,000, the $248.2 million generated in January. It was also the eighth consecutive month gross winnings cleared $200 million in the Wolverine State.
Month | Gross Online Casino Revenue |
March 2025 | $260,520,946 |
January 2025 | $248,150,753 |
April 2025 | $248,110,938 |
December 2024 | $243,985,944 |
November 2024 | $225,995,786 |
Over $233.1 million in adjusted gross revenue was eligible to be taxed, resulting in an inflow of $48.2 million to state coffers. The city of Detroit had receipts totaling $12.6 million, and tribal jurisdictions where iGaming is offered received $5.6 million in combined disbursements.
Relentless growth continues
In reviewing year-over-year revenue growth each month, operator winnings have increased by at least 13.8% every month since the first full-month comparisons could be made in February 2022. April marked the sixth time in the last 12 months winnings surged by at least 25%, with growth in terms of dollars ranging from $32.2 million last June to $66.3 million in January in that span.
April Year-by-Year | Gross Revenue | Difference | Percentage Increase |
2021 | $94,851,766 | N/A | N/A |
2022 | $132,438,012 | $37,586,246 | 39.6% |
2023 | $159,360,429 | $26,922,417 | 20.3% |
2024 | $192,934,494 | $33,574,065 | 21.1% |
2025 | $248,110,938 | $55,176,444 | 28.6% |
Year-to-date gross revenue is $20.7 million shy of $1 billion, an increase of 25.9% versus the first four months of 2024. Adjusted gross revenue is up 31.3% to $921.4 million, the by-product of all but one operator being allowed to deduct only 6% of promotional spend compared to 10% the first four years of conducting business.
The FanDuel-BetMGM rivalry rages on
The back-and-forth between FanDuel and BetMGM to claim the top revenue spot among Michigan’s 15 internet casino operators swung back to FanDuel in April. Its $67.6 million in gross revenue represented a 33.2% increase from last year and trailed only its $68.1 million posted the previous month.
After holding off FanDuel by nearly $852,000 in March, BetMGM slipped to No. 2 with a still-healthy $64.9 million. That was up 30.4% year-over-year, and BetMGM has a slender lead of $373,575 in revenue through the first four months of the year. Both operators have surpassed $260 million in winnings in 2025.
DraftKings was the only operator to set an all-time monthly high in revenue in April, claiming more than $42.5 million to beat its previous best of $42.2 million set in January. Its year-over-year growth was a more modest 10.5% compared to April 2024, while its year-to-date growth is lagging at 5.1%. That is largely due to a $9.28 million payout on a progressive jackpot in February.
BetRivers fended off Caesars Palace Online for the No. 4 spot for the second straight month as the pair were separated by $223,897. The $16.3 million won by BetRivers was a strong follow-up to its record $17.3 million in March revenue, ranking second all-time and up 30.8% from April 2024.
Caesars has been a model of consistency in 2025, topping $16 million in all four months. Its revenue spiked 42.3% compared to last year to $16.1 million while also clearing $350 million in all-time winnings.
Not everyone had a good April
Golden Nugget continued its up-and-down run in 2025, going from a record $11.8 million in March revenue to $7.3 million in April. A $2.5 million payout on Triple Jackpot Gems appears to be the primary catalyst for the month-over-month plunge in winnings. Golden Nugget’s account on “X” detailed another $883,000 in iGaming wins for the betting public, but monthly winnings were still up 250.4% from 2024.
When including Penn Entertainment’s $6.6 million in revenue via Greektown Casino, the three Detroit-casino-tethered iGaming platforms totaled $139.1 million in gross revenue, up 32.4% from last year. Their tribal counterparts combined for $109 million, an increase of 24.1%.
