The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday $231.2 million in adjusted gross online casino revenue for August, the third-highest total in state history.
The near-$289 million in gross winnings edged out May’s total by $22,256 for second all-time. Both trail the $291.6 million in total winnings for March. August’s strong numbers, though, offer the possibility of reaching the $300 million plateau for the first time this fall with potential increased bettor crossover from online sports betting.
August’s adjusted gross figure was 25.6% higher compared to last year, while gross revenue for 2025 is now above $2.2 billion. The $68.2 million in state tax revenue for August pushed the year-to-date amount to nearly $522 million.
Overall, Keystone State gaming revenue for August totaled $582.3 million, up 14.4% from last year and the second-highest total in state history. Combined state and local taxes from all gaming verticals including sports betting, retail casinos, video gaming terminals (VGTs), and daily fantasy totaled $238.5 million.
FanDuel continues to steam higher
There is still a notable gap in revenue between FanDuel Casino and the multiple platforms under the Penn National umbrella that include DraftKings and BetMGM, but there is no denying FanDuel’s winnings are spiraling upward.
FanDuel’s $67.6 million in total AGR is an all-time monthly high and represents a 47.1% year-over-year increase. Its $72.3 million in gross slot revenue was also an all-time high and accomplished despite the $1.3 billion drop ranking fourth.
The bumper August report put FanDuel on the cusp of $500 million in year-to-date winnings, an increase of 38.6% versus the first eight months of 2024. It also pushed the digital gaming leviathan above $2 billion in total online casino AGR dating back to its January 2020 launch through Valley Forge Casino.
Penn, meanwhile, ran its streak of months with $80 million in AGR to six after totaling $85.5 million from its platforms. That was up 18.5% from August 2024, and the $675.3 million in overall adjusted revenue this year is 29% higher than last year.
Penn cleared $80 million in gross slot revenue for the fourth time in the last six months as its $84.2 million haul trailed only May’s $85.6 million. Bettors, though, looked to have improved outcomes on the virtual felt on Penn’s platforms. Revenue slipped 3.6% from July to $21.2 million despite an 8.8% increase in drop to $1.35 billion.
BetRivers continues to keep the final podium spot for revenue in comfortable fashion. The Rush Street Gaming platform has operated in a relatively narrow window between $34.3 million and $38.6 million this year, with August’s figure landing at $36.6 million. That is a year-over-year increase of 18.5%, roughly on pace with its 18.7% rise in year-to-date winnings totaling $290.6 million.
Harrah’s best of rest, Nugget snaps funk
Caesars Palace Online via Harrah’s rounded out the quartet of platforms to post an eight-figure revenue total with an all-time high of $11.8 million. It was the sixth straight month above $10 million, and August’s figure represented a 32.3% increase in AGR winnings.
Golden Nugget Online rounded out the top five in revenue at $7.4 million, boosted by a record $1.3 million in table games winnings. That was a stark reversal from June and July, when bettors came out nearly $100,000 ahead spanning the two months.
