Platforms in the seven states that offer legal, commercial internet casino play combined to generate more than $830 million in online casino revenue for June as many wrapped up fiscal calendar years with strong year-over-year growth.

Operator gross winnings were up 31.1% from June 2024, with Pennsylvania leading the way at $262.5 million. Both Michigan and New Jersey surpassed $230 million, a notable upswing from last year when the Keystone State led the trio at $193.4 million.

States were able to levy taxes on $755.8 million in adjusted gross revenue, redirecting $161.6 million into their respective coffers. Pennsylvania provided the largest share of that total at $62.2 million, an increase of $15.8 million from 12 months prior. Overall, the seven states saw an additional $40.6 million in receipts compared to last year.

Pennsylvania continues big revenue, big promo spend

      Fiscal YearGross RevenueAdjusted RevenueTax Revenue
      2025$3,112,147,064$2,477,083,825$716,864,731
      2024$2,361,426,467$1,949,017,248$551,660,470

Since New Jersey and Michigan do not disclose “drop” statistics (the amount wagered), Pennsylvania by default had the nation’s largest drop for Fiscal Year 2025 at $83.14 billion. To put that in perspective, that figure is nearly 10 times the Keystone State’s $8.7 billion sports betting handle for FY 2025 and more than half the $149.72 billion known nationwide sports betting handle for the 2024 calendar year.

The $3.11 billion in gross revenue likely led the seven states — New Jersey only provides adjusted gross review (AGR) — and was up 31.8% from the previous 12 months. The $2.48 billion AGR, an increase of 27.1%, was more than the FY 2024 gross revenue of $2.36 billion. State tax receipts totaled $716.9 million, an increase of $165.2 million.

New Jersey set to see tax receipts jump

      Fiscal YearAdjusted Gross RevenueTax Revenue
      2025$2,643,506,253$396,154,949
      2024$2,122,539,159$318,597,462

Online casino platforms in the Garden State enjoyed solid year-over-year growth and spent some of Fiscal Year 2025 outperforming their brick-and-mortar counterparts in Atlantic City. The $2.64 billion in winnings represented a 24.5% surge compared to the previous 12 months and only $203.8 million less than in-person casino revenue.

With the state now taxing online casino revenue at 19.75%, the increase in receipts compared to FY 2025 will likely be notably greater than the $77.6 million uptick from FY 2024.

Michigan gets more tax bang for its buck

Fiscal Year (Oct-Jun)Gross RevenueAdjusted RevenueTax Revenue
      2025$2,162,007,629$2,005,259,733$410,667,708
      2024$1,676,787,926$1,510,565,635$307,708,862

Michigan’s fiscal year is still active as the calendar year for finances starts Oct. 1. But it can be argued the Wolverine State may provide the most attractive figures for a full 12-month period for a few reasons.

It continues to have solid year-over-year growth in lockstep with its big-market peers; it has a true rivalry for the No. 1 spot with FanDuel and BetMGM; football season usually leads to cross-playing on iCasino platforms; and the start of 2025 marked a reduction in promotional deductions for all but one operator from 10% to 6%.

Put that all together, and Michigan has a chance to have a higher full fiscal-year increase in terms of tax dollars than Pennsylvania as it entered the final quarter with an increase of $103 million.

      Connecticut duopoly still delivering

      Fiscal YearGross RevenueAdjusted RevenueTax Revenue
      2025$621,414,019$528,205,068$95,091,491
      2024$473,112,746$399,577,838$71,926,177

If you’re only going to have two platforms, make sure they’re big ones. Connecticut’s less-is-more approach with digital titans FanDuel and DraftKings for online casino play continues to pay huge dividends as the pair helped gross revenue surge 31.3% from Fiscal Year 2024.

While their promotional spend in number is somewhat close to online sports betting in terms of dollars, it is significantly less in terms of percentage of total drop. FanDuel offered $67.6 million in credits during FY 2025, but it was a mere 0.8% of the $8.41 billion wagered on its platform. DraftKings, even with two months of outlays venturing past $10 million, only had those credits represent 0.76% of the $9.59 billion drop.

DraftKings had the higher gross revenue of the pair at $321 million, highlighted by a state-record April haul of $31.6 million, compared to FanDuel’s $298.2 million.

BetRivers makes big strides in Delaware

      Fiscal YearGross RevenueAdjusted RevenueTax Revenue
      2025$102,066,457$85,491,118$17,563,336
      2024$37,019,272$31,935,265$6,860,279

BetRivers’ second calendar year operating solo in the First State provided huge increases for all involved. Its $102.1 million in gross winnings represented a 175.7% increase from FY 2024, which included predecessor 888 Holdings operating in the final six months of 2023.

BetRivers also showed the importance of an aggressive promotional spend. Its $7.2 million outlay for online slots in the first six months of this year nearly matched its $8.2 million spend for all of 2024. That contributed to a drop of $2.64 billion in the last 12 months that was up 165.7%. The $17.6 million in tax receipts represented an increase of $10.7 million year-over-year.

Country roads keep extending in West Virginia

      2024$5,152,290,311$190,804,357$24,327,555

More than 80% of West Virginia’s $7.54 billion online casino drop the last 12 months originated from two casino licensees: Hollywood at Charles Town and The Greenbrier. FanDuel, BetMGM, Fanatics, DraftKings, Golden Nugget, and Hollywood’s internal platform are all under those two umbrellas, fueling a 61.3% rise in revenue from FY 2024 that led to nearly $15 million more in tax revenue.

Rhode Island ready to pump up rookie numbers

      Fiscal Year DropRevenueTax Revenue
      2025$1,198,632,835$44,993,915$22,064,554

Bally’s wrapped up its first full fiscal year in Rhode Island on a positive note, with revenue more than double compared to June 2024 at $4.9 million and drop up 98.8% to $123.1 million. The downside was the $22.1 million in tax receipts was short of the $28.1 million estimated by the state in a November 2023 study.

Bally’s would have to continue to show notable year-over-year growth similar to the past four months in order to make a run at the projection of $40.1 million in tax revenue established for FY 2026.
