It doesn’t exactly solve Las Vegas’ current visitation challenges, but one massive tourism-driving event has been added to the calendar for three years from now.
Allegiant Stadium will play host to Super Bowl LXIII in 2029, the NFL announced Monday following a vote by the league’s owners in Phoenix. The stadium that the Las Vegas Raiders call home was the site of 2024’s Super Bowl, in which the Kansas City Chiefs prevailed over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.
“We’re excited to bring the Super Bowl back to Las Vegas and provide our fans another incredible experience in one of America’s greatest sport and entertainment destinations,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Super Bowl LVIII demonstrated the scale, energy, and hospitality the city brings to global events, and we look forward to working alongside the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Raiders, and the community to deliver an even greater experience this time around.”
Allegiant Stadium is scheduled to host plenty of other major sports (or “sports entertainment”) events between now and Super Bowl LXIII, including WrestleMania 42 April 18 and 19, the College Football Playoff National Championship game in January 2027, and the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four in 2028.
None of those quite compare, though, to the scale of hosting a Super Bowl. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the total economic impact on Sin City from the NFL’s title game in 2024 slightly exceeded $1 billion.
Silver and black going for gold?
Since the last Vegas Super Bowl, New Orleans played host in 2025, followed by Santa Clara, California, this year. Next year, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, gets the game, followed by Atlanta in ’28, before Vegas gets its second shot.
Could the home team, the Raiders, have a chance at playing in the next Vegas Super Bowl? By going a league-worst 3-14 last season, the Raiders secured the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, which they are expected to use on Heisman-winning Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. The team also hired a new head coach, Klint Kubiak.
Super Bowl LXIII would come in year three for Kubiak and Mendoza.
Vegas has an NHL team, the Golden Knights, and the former Oakland Athletics are expected to begin playing at their in-the-works baseball stadium on the Strip in ’28. Las Vegas also has the inside track for one of two expansion NBA franchises, although not everyone is convinced that the NBA will indeed be adding teams this decade.
