The folks behind the crypto casino BetHog are doubling down on the use of cutting-edge technology in their product, as on Tuesday morning they announced the debut of the first AI-powered online casino blackjack dealer.

Known as “Sunny,” the dealer is an animated character who serves to blur the line between the popular form of online gambling known as “live dealer,” in which real people are dealing actual physical cards on a live video feed, and purely digital casino gaming, in which the cards and felt are all virtual (even if the money is real).

As a press release explains, “Sunny offers players a fresh, interactive experience. Players can now interact with a dealer that greets them by name, remains engaged throughout each session, and is never tired.”

BetHog was founded in 2024 by FanDuel co-founders Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones, and like other crypto casinos, is not available legally to gamblers located in the United States. But crypto casinos are frequently cited as a home to some of the gambling industry’s boldest innovations, and the first AI blackjack dealer should certainly augment that reputation.

‘What the future of online casinos looks like’

“This is more than just a new feature, it represents a whole new category,” said CEO Eccles in Tuesday’s release. “AI is already transforming other industries, and with this launch, it is ready to transform online casinos. Sunny is the first of a new class of dealers who is guaranteed to be witty, sharp, and completely engaged in the game. This is what the future of online casinos looks like.”

Sunny is equipped with the machine-learning ability to get to know players and recall conversations with them as well as their hand histories.

In conjunction with the launch of this AI-powered dealer, BetHog has a special promotion running: The operator has programmed Sunny with five secrets about herself to share with players, and the first customer to have her reveal all five secrets will win a $50,000 prize.

BetHog, which is built on the blockchain platform Solana and can process thousands of transactions per second, is available in 14 languages and accepts deposits in 10 different crypto currencies.

Among the popular original games available in the casino app are Hogger, HODL, Mines, and Plinko, to go along with standard iCasino and brick-and-mortar casino games like blackjack, baccarat, and keno.

There is no timetable as of now for BetHog and other crypto casinos to be available in the U.S. and, in turn, for American customers to have the opportunity to get acquainted with Sunny.
